The Sunshine Coast sits in NCC Climate Zone 2: warm, humid summers and mild winters. On the coast the design job is overwhelmingly about keeping summer heat out and getting air moving, with only a light touch of winter heating to worry about.
In practice that means orienting living areas and glazing to the north where eaves can shade the high summer sun but still let in low winter sun, controlling east and west glass (the hardest to shade), and designing for cross-ventilation to catch the north-easterly sea breeze. Well-shaded glass, reflective sarking and a ventilated roof space usually do more for a coastal 7-star result than piling on bulk insulation.
